Columbine High School is part of the Jefferson County Public Schools and is situated in Littleton, a suburb of Denver, Colorado.

On April 20, 1999, two teenagers entered Columbine High School, armed with handguns and rifles and opened fire on students in the cafeteria and library, killing fifteen including a teacher and wounding several more before taking their own lives.  Authorities found numerous bombs — pipe bombs and other home-made devices in the school, raising the question of how two individuals, acting alone, could have gotten this much hardware into the high school unnoticed.

The links to the left discuss the tragedy at this high school, the most heinous of the seven school shootings in the past three years.
