Hi Rebecca,

I have several problems with Virtual Academy.  Several parents have come forward and stated that they were not aware that Bennett was receiving state money for their children; nor were they aware their child was considered a “public school” student.  Because Bennett is receiving state money, his curriculum cannot be based on the Christian world view.  For some parents, this isn't a problem.  For others, it is, as the world view Bennett's curriculum is based on is Humanism.  And the biggest problem in all of this is that parents involved in the Virtual Academy are going to find themselves, at some point, sucked into the system by virtue of their children being considered a public school student.  As the child is considered a public school student, the state has ultimate control over the child.  Parents who balk will be faced by the police and child protective services “in the interests of the child.”

You speak of “magic.”  I would have to see the curriculum to be able to tell you if it is tending toward introduction to New Age.

I haven't read “The Educated Child” but were I guessing based on the rest of Bennett's writings, he takes Christian virtue and tries to immerse it in a Humanist world view.  It sounds good, but it doesn't work.

Why am I picking on K12?  Because Bennett is not being above board with the people using his curriculum and the Virtual Academy.  He talks the talk but he doesn't walk the walk.
