Thank you for responding so
quickly. I would agree that one
needs to read the fine print to get the full picture K12 represents. I do know that at the parent information
sessions I've attended it is stated right up front that K12 charter schools ARE
public schools. So parents coming
to learn more based on mass mailings do learn early in the session that the
charter schools do not fall under the home schooling domain. That's just been my experience. I also seem to remember that in the
enrollment forms reference is made to the charter being a public school, but I
could be incorrect that it was explicit in nature. I was just wondering, would your
concerns on this particular issue be alleviated somewhat if K12 boldly made the
referral to “public/government schools” somewhere in its mailings?
Someone once stated that these charter
schools are not free but are “using your neighbor's tax
dollars.” I realize that free
with no strings attached is incorrect, but we do pay our taxes as well. And for the years we were in the
traditional home school category, we didn't receive any benefit from those tax
dollars. So, I didn't agree with
the statement when it was made and I still don't.
I am interested, though, in what you've
found that seems to point to a movement to abolish home schooling in the
traditional sense. Are any states
currently trying to absolve laws presently on the books? I would be interested in what you know
on this issue.
Thank you once again!
Debbie
